We are a sociable group and have very relaxed meetings. Our reading is wide-ranging, and we plan our programme together, with members leading sessions in turn if they wish.
The programme varies, but generally we do not have a ‘set’ book to read each month. We have a chosen literary theme, recently ‘Love’, ‘Fools’ and ‘Adolescence’. Members then are able to choose what they read which is relevant to that theme, and we share the discussion.
Our plans for the next few months are 'The Book of the Film' - or, rather, the film of the book. This should interest film buffs too! We hope to watch the film having read the book, and then see how good a job has been done.
(Incidentally, although we are a women's book group, it isn't for feminist reasons. It was formed by members of the International Women's Association in Limassol, in pre-U3A days, and in fact the original U3A steering group was formed from the Women's Book Group at that time. A bit of Cyprus U3A history!) |
